Post election post-mortem with out gay Ohio Auditor candidate Taylor Sappington

Nelsonville Auditor Taylor Sappington proved he has the chops to run for a state office as an out gay man in Ohio.

 

As the very successful Auditor of the Appalachian city of Nelsonville -- a city which Sappington is credited with saving -- he has been a transformative figure.

 

As the Democratic nominee for State Auditor against a popular opponent in a "red wave" year, Sappington was the only Democrat on the state executive office ticket who over-performed, and in some counties, led the ticket in total votes.

 

Sappington first came on Gaywaves when he launched his historic campaign.

 

In this segment he shares his experiences and learned lessons.

The Humanist Report's Mike Figueredo makes his second Gaywaves appearance to discuss the result of the midterm election and the act of terror at Club Q.

 

Figueredo is a successful YouTube and Means TV progressive commentator, and one of only a few who is an out gay man, and who comments often on LGBTQ issues on his show.

 

Mike's thoughts and insights in this segment will be useful to the LGBTQ community for the remainder of the Biden Administration, and into the next administration.

Gaywaves interview with out gay 14th Congressional District candidate Matt Kliboy

Our guest on Gaywaves today is 14th Congressional District candidate Matt Kilboy.

 

Matt is an out gay man who served in the U.S. Navy and is currently a nurse. His story is compelling, and he brings a lot to the congressional race against an opponent who is not known for being LGBTQ friendly.  The district has been drawn to heavily favor Republicans.

 

In this interview Kilboy talks about serving in the Navy under Don't Ask Don't Tell, then as an out gay man.

 

He also talks about the two incidents he witnessed that made him decide he needed to run for congress.  (Both include Donald Trump.)

 

Kilboy has a lot to say about his race and the state of U.S. politics in general.

This week on Gaywaves we put the third jewel in the triple crown with our guest Judge Terri Jamison, who is seeking a seat on Ohio's Supreme Court.

 

Judge Terri Jamison is currently seated on Ohio's Tenth District Court of Appeals (Franklin County).  

 

Jamison shares her life story, which includes some interesting occupations prior to law, and her relationship to members of the LGBTQ community who have been meaningful to her, as well as her approach to the law.

 

This interview was conducted face-to-face in Canton as Jamison was on her way to a campaign event.

Gaywaves talks to Cynthia Peeples about the Ohio Board of Education sending the anti-transgender resolution to committee

Cynthia Peeples, director of Honesty for Ohio Education, who has been one of the leading organizers against an anti-transgender resolution in the Ohio Board of Education returns to Gaywaves to talk about the latest developments.

 

Following 8 hours of testimony, the resolution was sent to the executive committee for more deliberation with a surprising 12-7 vote. This move probably kills it, giving our community, allies, and public education a political victory and a moral achievement.
