Regardless of what one thinks of him, Dr. Anthony Fauci is a highly consequential figure in the history of LGBTQ people in the United States, especially during the 1980s and '90s.

 

As Fauci announces his retirement and promises to become an activist, long term survivor, former ACT UP Cleveland spokesperson and friend of Larry Kramer Gil Kudrin joins Gaywaves to share his personal perspective on Fauci and share his recollection and e-mail as to what Larry Kramer really thought of Fauci.

As Monkeypox continues its high rate of spread among men who have sex with men, MetroHealth Pride Clinic medical director Dr. Mark McLoney joins Gaywaves today to talk about recent developments.

 

There are now a small number of Monkeypox vaccines available in the Cleveland area and Dr. McLoney discusses how they will be distributed and what we can expect and how soon most who need the vaccines can get them. He also discusses risk and harm reduction until vaccines are widely available.

Ohio's LGBTQ community is currently under attack from the sitting Republican attorney general, who is part of an attempt to limit or overturn LGBTQ non-discrimination protection in employment, housing and public accommodtations, and especially in education opportunities.

 

Attorneys General are a state's top enforcer of civil rights.  In this interview Crossman discusses his relationship to the LGBTQ community and his vision for civil rights and equality in contrast to his incumbent opponent's.

MetroHealth Pride Clinic physician Dr. Laura Mintz discusses Monkeypox.

 

Topics include what it is, why it is spreading among men who have sex with men, treatments, and what to do to protect oneself from it.

 

In the first two minutes or so Dr. Mintz revealed that Monkeypox has been diagnosed in gay men in Cleveland, which occurred the day before this segment was recorded.  

 

Monkeypox is likely going to be a topic of concern for the general public, and for men who have sex with men in particular for the forseeable future, and Gaywaves is grateful to Dr. Mintz for such an early and complete look at the situation currently.

NCLR staff attorney Asaf Orr breaks down the anti-LGBTQ court decision challenging the landmark LGBTQ rights case Bostock v. Clayton County

Our guest on Gaywaves this week is Asaf Orr, senior staff attorney and Transgender Youth Project director at the National Center for Lesbian Rights.

 

Gaywaves has been covering the case brought by 20 state attorneys general, including Ohio's Dave Yost, seeking to overturn or severely narrow the landmark LGBTQ rights Supreme Court decision in Bostock v. Clayton County. That's the decision that expanded the definition of "sex' in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to finally include sexual orientation and gender identity.

 

This week a Trump appointed federal judge in Tennessee agreed with the anti-LGBTQ attorneys general, which is of concern to LGBTQ rights advocates.

 

Attorney Orr breaks it down, telling us what we should be concerned about, and where this potentially harmful decision could lead.

Gaywaves interview with Noah Ruiz, the 20 year old transgender man attacked, then arrested as a result of using the restroom he was instructed to use at a SW Ohio campground

Our guest this segment is Noah Ruiz from Oxford, Ohio.  Noah is a 20 year old transgender man.

 

On July 3 while at a campground with his family and girlfriend, Noah was assaulted and beaten up in the restroom because the rules he was following placed him in the wrong bathroom.

 

Preble County Sheriff deputies arrived on the scene, but instead of arresting the assailants, they arrested Noah, who spent the night in the county jail and has been charged with crimes.

 

This event highlights the danger transgender people face doing things like using restrooms, which cisgender people take for granted.

 

This drama is unfolding in SW Ohio and this Gaywaves interview is the most complete account of it as experienced by Noah.
